Malaysia: Employee Loses Job After Requesting Paternity Leave

While many companies provide maternity leave for women, few provide paternity leave for fathers. An employee who asked for paternity leave in Malaysia has lost his job. He shared his experience through social media. He says that he had applied for paternity leave and his superior informed him of his dismissal through a text message without even making a phone call.

He says in the post that his wife gave birth earlier than the doctors said and this is their first child. He had already planned to take leave during the due date. However, he pointed out that everything has changed and he had to take leave earlier than he said. The dismissed superior even described this employee as lazy. He says that the boss even asked him why his wife gave birth early.
