Malaysia’s Bureau of the Royal Household issued a statement today that “His Majesty the King has the royal authority to declare a state of emergency at a time when the Malaysian government has to deal with the COVID-19 epidemic.”

The statement said The emergency will last until Aug. 1 or sooner. Depending on the epidemic situation of COVID-19

The move took place during the time of the Umno Party. Malaysia’s ruling party is debating whether the election should be canceled or should be held by March. The Umno Party is expected to make such a decision during the General Assembly on January 31.
