Malaysia record daily death cases due to Covid-19 on Saturday (17/7), with 138 deaths. This figure brings the accumulated death cases to 6,866 since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country.
Director General of Health Malaysia Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in his statement said that of the total deaths, 128 were local citizens and 10 were foreign nationals.
“Of the total, 46 deaths were reported in Selangor; Negeri Sembilan (20); 16 each in Kuala Lumpur and Johor; Pahang (12); Melaka (11); Kedah (seven); Perak (four); Penang (three) ); Terengganu (two) and one in Sabah, “he said, as quoted Named.
Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said 6,629 recovered cases were found on the same day, bringing the total recovered cases to 779,171 so far.
He said of the 12,528 daily positive cases of Covid-19 reported, 12,509 cases were local transmissions and 19 imported cases.
“Currently there are 119,814 active cases, while the total number of Covid-19 patients being treated in the ICU is 908 people with 425 of them in respiratory care,” he said.
Noor Hisham said of the total daily reported cases, 6,840 cases were asymptomatic, 5,468 cases had mild symptoms, 112 cases had pneumonia, 44 cases needed oxygen, and 64 cases were in critical condition.
There were 28 clusters detected in the spread of the case, namely 19 workplace clusters, six community clusters, two high-risk clusters and one education cluster.
Noor Hisham said Malaysia’s Covid-19 infectivity (R-naught or Rt) level yesterday reached 1.19, with the highest Rt value in Putrajaya reaching 1.31.
“Terengganu recorded 1.25; Negeri Sembilan (1.21); Kedah (1.20); Selangor (1.19); Melaka (1.18); Kuala Lumpur (1.17); Penang (1.14); Kelantan (1.11); 1.10 each for Pahang and Perak; Sabah (1,09) and Johor (1,08) while Sarawak (0.92), Labuan (0.76) and zero for Perlis, “he said.
Meanwhile, the number of checks polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and antigen in the last 14 days experienced an increasing trend. He reported that on Friday (16/7) 132,935 tests were carried out, consisting of 65,171 PCR tests and 67,764 antigen tests.
The highest inspection was done by Selangor with 46,681 inspections, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 16,500 inspections and Johar with 10,611 inspections
