Diplomatic relations were established for the first time in history after the two countries agreed to work together on September 15, 2020. The UAE and Bahrain have signed a historic agreement with Israel. The ceremony was attended by then US President Donald Trump at the White House. UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Bahraini Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullah Latif bin Rashid Al Sayyani signed the agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This is the first time that the Gulf states have joined hands with Israel. Prior to that, Egypt and Jordan were the only Arab states with diplomatic relations with Israel.

Israel opened its embassy in Abu Dhabi in January. On the same day, the UAE decided to open an embassy in Israel. The UAE Embassy is in Tel Aviv. In his message of congratulations, Sheikh Mohammed said that we can work to strengthen friendship and cooperation with Israel and to maintain peace, co-operation and tolerance between the people of the two countries.

Earlier, Egypt and Jordan were Arab states that established normal relations with Israel. But the UAE is the first country from the Gulf region to engage in regular relations with Israel.
A spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called the deal a “fraud.” Palestine has recalled its diplomatic representative from the UAE. The Palestinians say this will be a setback for their aspirations to remain an independent state.
