That movie was also a big challenge for me personally. Earlier, the sound produced by Mac Productions ran smoothly, but the films like Purappad and Jatakam had a bad collection. It was a time when people began to look at themselves as a failing filmmaker. The days when I saw the shadow of despair in my film career. That’s when you reach the stern.
Bharathettan was the director. Screenplay by Lohithadas. Apart from Mammootty, Murali, KPAC Lalitha, Maatu, Ashokan and Chithra are the leading actors. When the first copy was finished, the film was shown to a few friends inside and outside the film industry. Some of the then ‘celebrities’ in the film called me privately and commented that ‘slang in this film would be a big problem’. Their opinion was that the countrymen might not accept this.
In those days, from the very beginning of the film till its release, there was a habit of staying with the film completely. The total was shattered when I heard comments from friends that defied all expectations. Memories of previous films that caused financial loss and humiliation also began to haunt.
Eventually both were ordered and film boxes sent to theaters. The box to Thiruvananthapuram could not be sent on time. So I went straight with that box. Mammootty was also on the plane that day. During the journey, Mammootty also asked, ‘Hello … will this slang be a problem?’ Besides, it was not a good time for Mammootty either.
I wondered if there would be another film of shame. Arrived at the theater in the morning. The theater slowly filled up without a big push. Since it was a 10pm show, it was mostly young people.
The dialogue starts shortly after. Mammootty’s character is seen leaking in the beach hut. The first dialogue in the style of the beach was ‘Mutte, Achchan Ichiri Koottante Charingeduthe’ in a big pellet. When the chest tightens. The miracle happened unexpectedly when the locals were on fire wondering if they would accept the wave language of the coast. As soon as the dialogue was over, the theater was filled with cheers.
Wreaths flew through the theater. Seconds after realizing that the movie was going to succeed. The excitement of the theater flooded into me as well. I saw the movie in the middle of the police behind the second class seats. Seeing the performance of the people, I jumped high with my hands on the shoulders of the strangers who were nearby. I wonder if that didn’t happen in those seconds. It must be said that he jumped with joy. He then apologized to the police.
At the same moment, the people wrote the fate of the film. World class world class film. Many times it was necessary to remake it into other languages. However, due to the depiction of the sea and the beauty of the language on our shores, it has not been translated into other languages. In any case, ‘Amaram’ turned out to be a better, more dream-like film than expected. Many who were with him then are no more today. Everyone left with an unforgettable experience. By the time the film turns 30, all those romantic relationships are still at the helm of life. Just like the undulating shore.
