The Diphtheria Extraordinary Event Status (KLB) at the end of July 2023 was targeted to end on September 23, 2023. Initially the findings of a case of diphtheria that attacked an 8 year old child. Until now, this status has not been revoked.
The Malang City Health Office (Dinkes) is focusing on accelerating the immunization process in Kedungkandang District, as the area where the victim was infected with diphtheria. The Head of the Malang City Health Office, Dr. Husnul Mu’arif, has responded by carrying out the Immunization Response Outbreak (ORI) step in the infected population or area.
“Providing diphtheria vaccine to targets aged 1 to 5 years in the Kedungkandang District area with a target number of around 43 thousand people,” said Husnul, when confirmed, Tuesday (5/9).
The implementation of this ORI was carried out at the end of August 2023, and is still ongoing until now. It is estimated that immunization will be completed by the end of this month. So that the Malang City Health Office is targeting to revoke the status of the diphtheria outbreak on September 23, 2023. “Insha Allah on September 23, 2023 it will be revoked,” he said.
Meanwhile, the implementer of the Malang City Health Office Immunization Program, Wirantika Putri, said that the obstacle in the field that is often experienced by officials regarding immunization is the lack of awareness from parents.
“That immunization is not for today, but for the rest of his life. Its life cycle is necessary for immunity. Sometimes parents think their children are not sick now so they don’t need immunizations,” he said. [mut.iib]
