Makoto Hasebe from Eintracht Frankfurt is celebrating his 40th birthday. Many Bundesliga players congratulated the popular Japanese player.
Frankfurt – Makoto Hasebe from Eintracht Frankfurt is the oldest Bundesliga player and at the same time one of the most popular Eintracht kickers. The Japanese received numerous congratulations on his 40th birthday. VfL Bochum’s Anthony Losilla even greeted the defensive specialist in a video message.
Will Losilla be Hasebe’s successor?
The captain of the Bundesliga club Makoto Hasebe from Eintracht Frankfurt congratulated him on his special day with a wink via VfL Bochum’s social media channels: “Dear Makoto, I wish you all the best for your 40th birthday. It’s crazy that you’re still playing. But honestly, it’s slowly enough. Just let me be the oldest player in the Bundesliga.” Losilla is also looking forward to seeing each other again soon: “Hopefully we’ll see each other in the second half of the season.”
In fact, the 37-year-old Frenchman is the second oldest player in the German upper house after Hasebe. In third place is Manuel Neuer from FC Bayern Munich, who is around three weeks younger than Losilla from Bochum.

Former club and companions celebrate Eintracht Frankfurt’s Mokoto Hasebe
But it wasn’t just Losilla’s creative video that reached the birthday girl Hasebe. His former club VfL Wolfsburg also sent congratulations to Frankfurt on becoming the “Wolves champion player.” The 114-time Japanese international celebrated triumph in the Bundesliga with Lower Saxony in 2009 under Felix Magath. After a dry spell of nine years, the DFB Cup in 2018 and the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022 were added to Hasebe’s trophy cabinet.
The SGE also congratulated its “hare” throughout the day with many videos on social media channels. Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp said in one of the videos about his teammate: “He’s a phenomenon who definitely doesn’t look 40.” The Japanese’s professional contract runs until the summer. The 40-year-old also has a follow-up contract until 2027, which will probably keep him in other positions at the club. When signing the contract last March, the young-at-heart model professional said: “Frankfurt has become my home, Eintracht is my club.” Fans and those in charge want it to stay that way for a long time.
