Making millions of Android and iPhone users panic, WhatsApp will block 53 cellphones on November 1, 2021

BANGKAPOS.COM — A large number of articles have caused panic by suggesting that WhatsApp will stop working on “53 smartphones” – but most people seem to be able to continue chatting as before.

This new report is just the latest in a series of reports showing that WhatsApp will stop working on old phones when the supposedly November 1st deadline arrives.

The latest version of them may have been published as that deadline is now less than a month away.

But many devices that should lose access don’t do it at all.

At least some of the phones in that list of 53 devices are fine to stick with WhatsApp as previously.

So while the November 1 deadline is real – WhatsApp have said that, as of that date, it won’t be supported on some older phones – it doesn’t affect nearly as many phones as has been reported.

Many reports point to the support page WhatsApp, which does indicate that the user should have at least Android 4.0.4, or iOS 10.

Any previous version is not supported by WhatsApp, and thus may lose connection to the service, as claimed.

The restriction was added to the iOS page at some point around March this year, according to the Wayback Machine. WhatsApp has long required devices to be updated to newer versions of the operating system.

November 1st seems to only apply to devices Android. On the support page WhatsApp, there is a special note saying that older devices will lose access to the service, as “WhatsApp will no longer support mobile Android running OS 4.0.4 and older “.
