MAKI Asks KPK to Reject Lukas Enembe’s Request to Become City Prisoner

Jakarta

The Governor of Papua’s legal and advocacy team is inactive Luke Enembe submitted an application for the transfer of Lukas Enembe’s detention status to the KPK. The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) asked the KPK to reject the request.

“In my opinion, the KPK should not have granted the request, my version is OK. I asked the KPK not to grant the request for transfer to city detention,” said MAKI Coordinator Boyamin Saiman when contacted, Tuesday (24/1/2023).

Boyamin said the KPK had stated Luke Enembe in good condition. Boyamin assessed that this healthy condition allowed Lukas Enembe to be sent to the detention center. Moreover, according to him, this was evidenced by Lukas Enembe not being brought back to the hospital.

“So far, the KPK has said that Mr. Lukas Enembe is healthy, even yesterday there was a video release that even Mr. Lukas Enembe was able to walk around in the hospital, then he was returned to the Guntur Detention Center and for the past few days there have been no complaints, the evidence has not been sent home. sick of the army,” said Boyamin.

“It means that Mr. Lukas Enembe is in a healthy context, because what, if he is sick, the detention center also refuses. The rules don’t allow him to be sent to the detention center if he is sick. This means that the person who enters the detention center is legally healthy. But if he walks slowly he gets gout or is it normal, or because you have been sick, walking slowly is normal, but legally he is healthy,” he continued.

Even so, Boyamin considered that the request for a transfer of detention status was acceptable. However, MAKI reminded that the KPK had never granted a similar request.

“The name of the effort is okay, the name of the defendant, the suspect in court always submits a suspension of detention or becomes a city prisoner, as a form of endeavor I am in a position of respect, go ahead with Lukas Enembe’s party to submit the request, whether it is granted or not is up to the KPK. I don’t think the Corruption Eradication Commission has ever granted a city prisoner’s approval,” said Boyamin.

He also asked the KPK to expedite the Lukas Enembe case to trial. Because according to Boyamin the settlement of corruption cases needs to take precedence.

“Still detained, expedited and tried immediately, it should be a justice solution, right? Corruption cases must take precedence over other cases. That’s Article 25 of Law number 31 of 99 concerning eradicating corruption,” he said.
