-Love and heartbreak never go out of style and less in music, what is the root of this collaboration?
– The idea came up because I’m presenting an EP with six Mexican songs, it’s called ´Mexican and Ranchera´, I return to my Mexican roots, it is my fourth production in my 49 years singing and for me it is a treat to have invited Lupe Esparza of the group Bronco to sing ´Swallows of bitter liqueur´.
I wanted for that theme, which is a bartender, as Lupe used to say ´of drunkenness, of pain´, and as you said, love and lack of love are carried in the soul of human beings. So she singsSwallows of bitter liqueur´ is a treat, simply, to sing it with Lupe and the group Bronco.
-Although there could be thousands of scenarios to dress the theme, the video clip shows them singing, how was the experience?
-We recorded the song, the musical part, here in my recording studio and the producer Fernando de Santiago’s studio. Then we sent the song to Lupe so that they could do the vocals at the Bronco studio in Apodaca (Nuevo León), but we couldn’t be apart to record the video. You need the emotion, to feel, to touch, the hug, the cuddle, so I went there, we took a flight with my daughter Mariana, my assistant Paola, in the midst of a pandemic, with great care, but we had to do it because it is not the same.
The emotion of the voice, recording listening to Lupe, that he listened to me, was very exciting and we were able to record the voices each one separately, but the video had to see each other.
It turned out very nice, it was what the pandemic allowed us to do because the pandemic was very delicate (…) but when we went there it was very carefully, with a lot of love and we recorded in the Bronco studio.
-What are we going to find in ´Mexicana y Ranchera´?
-This EP are classics of popular Mexican songs. The first was ´Besos y copas´, the second ´Tú solo tú´, the third ´Cielo rojo´ and this fourth is ´Swallows of bitter liqueur´; There are two missing that we are going to make known later, but without a doubt it is an EP of festive songs, very strong, Mexican, songs that the youth do not forget about these beautiful Mexican classics that we have.
-How do you feel after almost 5 decades of continuing to promote Mexican culture through music?
It’s what makes me happiest. I left my career as a sociologist at UNAM for singing and I think I was not wrong. I am happy when I go on stage, I feel like myself, that I give the best of myself, so for me it is a great pleasure to be able to sing, continue singing, to have the favor of the public.
Three days after launching this video we reached 100 thousand views on my YouTube channel of this video with my friend Lupe Esparza with the Bronco group; so I’m very happy with the reception they have given to the song, also ´Tu solo tu´ has close to 78 thousand views, in short, I think we are in the good of Mexican music.

-The Mexican regional is booming, but still has male leadership, what would be your message to those who aspire to be a Guadalupe Pineda in music?
– Keep insisting, we do know that music is like that. There are more female fans of males than males of females; but it is not new. idols like Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, really the masculine drag has been greater, there will be some sociological or psychological thing there.
However, if you want to be a singer, you have to follow and pursue your dream, like me who left my university career and as I see my niece Ángela, Majo and Leonardo (Aguilar), they are chasing their dream. I started from scratch, in very small forums, my first salary was 33 pesos, coffee and tacos, that was what I earned.
I’m still vocalizing, working on my voice and right now I already have this material ready, but I’m in the recording studio to release other new material. This does not stop, you have to continue fighting all day.
-Do you already have a schedule of presentations?
-We are in the process (…) I have been active, not yet as I would like, the forums are still opening, however, we have important presentations planned both inside and outside the country and abroad and closing dates for the year that comes. So I am very happy, very grateful to my audience and hoping to go to Veracruz soon, so that we can sing together.Swallows of bitter liqueur´.
