– Makes me more vulnerable – VG

CAN WIN THE AWARD: Victoria Nadine has been nominated for Newcomer of the Year and Song of the Year in P3 Gold.

Six days after it ended with her boyfriend, she wrote the song that can now win an award under P3 Gold.

– It feels very surreal. It is very cool and I never thought it would be, says Victoria Nadine (21).

She is nominated to win this year’s newcomer and song of the year during P3 Gold on Saturday night. The song she is nominated for is “Be Okay” which at the time of writing has surpassed 11.3 million plays.

She has previously been open about the song being written one week after a public break-up, and that the song helped her get over the love grief.

– It means a lot to me in several ways, but I never thought it would be the song that took off.

DREAMS BIG: Victoria says she has ambitions to make it big as an artist abroad, and maybe fill Madison Square Garden.

– I had just finished everything I had with my previous record companies, and did not quite believe in myself, so then I thought “then it will at least go bad”. But I really felt I had to start on my own, and that was the first song I wrote for myself.

The song, which became a mega-hit, also created some uncertainty for Nadine.

– I was terrified that it would be a flop, but fortunately it was not. It shows on the response to the other songs I have released in retrospect.

– Not crucial

In the aftermath of “Be okay”, she has released several songs, which together have many millions of plays.

– It has surprised me so much, it has been far from what I had imagined. But I feel like I’ve found my way, and I’m so glad I did. The last year has been very crucial for me.

That she is now nominated feels like an acknowledgment of what she is trying to convey through the music.

– It would have meant so much to win, but this is not what is decisive for my career. What determines my career is everything I have done, and will do in the future.

VULNERABLE: Victoria is very open and honest in her songs, and says it can also bring with it some negative sides.

– Extremely tiring

Although she is nominated for this year’s newcomer, Nadine first became known via “Idol” as a 16-year-old.

– It was with “Be okay” that I started making songs without the influence of anyone else. In the songs I am very open and honest about things I go through, and communicate this through the music. I think many people recognize themselves, and feel that they are part of my lyrics.

– Can there be anything negative about it?

– Being open and honest also makes me more vulnerable. People think so much, and it makes me afraid to offend something. I walk with high shoulders all the time, terrified of doing something wrong. It is extremely tiring.

Nadine makes no secret of the fact that most of her songs are about love, but on the love front right now it’s calm.

– Not much is happening there now, and I enjoy it. I’m not looking, but if it happens, it will happen, even if that’s not my focus now.

For now, music is the main focus, and Nadine is excited about the next year.

– What do you dream about?

– I dream of doing big abroad at the same time as I focus on Norway. It would have been fun to fill Oslo Spektrum, she says before she smiles gently:

– And Madison Square Garden.
