Tomorrow the time has finally come. Baldur’s Gate 3 Early Access is finally coming to Stadia after a number of delays. To get through that last day, some more information has come out about creating your own character.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a major RPG set in the Forgotten Realms universe, known for the Dungeons & Dragons games. In these games the story and the various characters play a major role. In Baldur’s Gate 3 you can choose to play as one of the countless predefined characters, but it is also possible to create your own character. You do that in the beginning during ‘Character Creation’. The options for this are explained.
Lots of variations
In the Forgotten Realms universe, in addition to humans, dwarves, elves and halflings are well represented. So you will certainly be able to play like these breeds. In addition, there are some extra additions, which are a bit more exotic, such as Githyanki and the Drow. Which breed you choose also greatly affects how the world responds to you. For example, humans and elves are numerous but a Githyanki is very rare and most NPCs have never seen it.
You will see this reflected in the game world and how you are reacted to. In addition, all races have a ‘sub race’, which means that it often concerns a mutation or a separate population. The total list of varieties including sub-varieties amounts to 16+. Each variety also gives you extra traits and statistics. Below is a complete list of the varieties in Early Access:
- Human
- Githyanki
- Elf (Sub race: High Elf & Wood Elf)
- Drow (Sub race: Seldarine Drow & Loth-Sworn Drow)
- Half-Elf (Sub race: High Half-Elf & Wood Half-Elf & Drow Half-Elf)
- Dwarf (Sub race: Gold Dwarf & Shield Dwarf)
- Tiefling (Sub race: Asmodeus Tiefling & Mephistopheles Tiefling & Zariel Tiefling)
Determine your own path
In addition to a race, the class you choose also plays an important factor. This determines what skills you use, how you fight and how you deal with the world. In addition, in some cases it also determines how the environment reacts to you, just like with your breed. Early Access starts with 6 classes, but it is possible that this will be expanded later.
Each class also receives at least two subclasses, similar to the races. This allows you to further shape your character and further refine your playing style. Some classes get this from level 1, others from later levels. The classes in Early Access are:
- Cleric
- Fighter
- Ranger
- Rogue
- Warlock
- Wizard
