The Société d’habitation Le Paillasson (SHLP) is organizing a fundraising activity for the construction of social housing.
The “Patinons pour l’habitation” Patinothon will take place on February 3 from 6 p.m. to midnight. A marked course will be designated on the ice rink at Lac du Village, in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville. SHLP volunteers will greet people at both entrances (Lakeview Street side and Old Presbytery side). “There will be two reception kiosks [de chaque côté du lac du Village]including one to update people on developments in the
project”, explains Josée Rhoades, president of the SHLP. Hot chocolate and coffee will be offered on site. “The layout of the site will be festive and welcoming. There will be outdoor fireplaces, lighting and background music,” she adds.
The mat
The building will have 28 social housing units, including 8 three and a half, 10 four and a half and 10 five and a half. It will be located on the grounds of the technical pavilion. The City of Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville obtained a $5.4 million grant from the government. This housing project is in line with the orientations of the Special Urban Plan for the city center and the new Housing Policy, adopted in October 2019, since it will contribute to increasing the supply of affordable housing. and social. Despite the $5.4 million grant, “the Société d’habitation Le Paillasson will still have to finance a portion of the project with a mortgage of several million dollars to be repaid over 35 years. The funds raised by this activity can be used for several things, including repaying the mortgage more quickly, but also for outdoor furniture, green roof, charging stations for electric cars, for example. It will also be necessary to establish a larger and more stable operational reserve to cover certain management expenses and to purchase any office furniture and computer equipment,” says Ms. Rhoades.
