Make peace with HIV-Aids – Medcom.id

Lampung: That morning the Bandar Lampung train station was deserted. A train appears to be leaving soon to continue its journey to the destination city. Inside is Almira (not her real name), a woman who looks ordinary, not many people know that she is a person living with HIV-Aids (PLWHA).

“I know HIV-Aids after 40 days my husband died. Even then, not directly, someone told me about my husband’s illness and I was asked to have a blood check. the results were positive, “said Almira.

Having the status as ODHA certainly made him drop and gave up hope. But it was her children who made herself aware of her spirit and struggled for life.

Unlike Almira, Elvina Harahap, who has been tested positive for HIV-Aids, is more willing to open up about her illness. even though at first the community knew about the disease, they often got unpleasant behavior.

“I was infected with HIV-Aids in 2004, I have two children and fortunately they tested negative,” said Elvina.

Seeing the discrimination that often occurs in survivors of PLWHA, Elvina chooses to be active in the Community ODHA Berdaya Network in her area. Until now, this network has hundreds of members covering Lampung Province.

In commemorating World HIV-Aids Day which falls in December, Eagle Institute Indonesia takes the stories of these PLWHA survivors which are summarized in a documentary film entitled Sketsa Two Stories.

This film is part of the Eagle Awards Documentary Competition. Watch the story on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 10.30 WIB on Metro TV.
