Majority summit postponed: no agreement on Rai nominations, Election day and EU commissioner

There is no agreement. The majority summit between the Prime Minister, Georgia Meloniand the deputy prime ministers Matteo Salvini and Antonio Tajani scheduled for today. The meeting will probably be postponed to Wednesday, August 7, on the sidelines of the last Council of Ministers scheduled before the holidays. “It will be set shortly”, the Deputy Prime Minister simply says Matthew Salvini. Meanwhile, the appointments for the new board of directors of Rai remain uncertain. There is still discussion about the Election day for the next regional elections and the issue of the weighty commissioner in the EU is still a hot topic.

The majority, at the moment, has not yet reached an agreement on the possibility of proceeding with the indication of the new board of Rai before the summer break. And the hypothesis of a postponement of the nominations to September is taking shape. The time is very short, given that the break in parliamentary activity begins on August 9. Weighing on the issue, in addition to the agreement to be reached to close on the names and ‘satisfy’ the political forces that support the government (first and foremost the League which would be excluded from the top nominations), is the need for a vote in the Supervisory Commission to ratify the president: here two thirds of the votes are needed, the center-right has only 24 out of 28 and the opposition is uniting to boycott the vote.

Among the issues at the center of the debate are also the upcoming regional elections. In principle Georgia Meloni seemed oriented towards the election day of November 17-18 for Liguria, Umbria and Emilia Romagna. Now it seems to have changed its mind: better to avoid a merger that risks amplifying the “shoulder effect” on the eve of a blood and tears Budget.
