More than three-quarters of the Swiss population support an initiative launched this fall to limit private use of fireworks, primarily for animal welfare and to combat air pollution.
This is evidenced by a survey published on Friday, December 29, by a Swiss information portal. Watsonreports “European Truth”.
According to the survey, 76% of respondents support the initiative to limit the use of fireworks, 24% are against. The majority of survey participants took a clear position, and only 11% chose the option “rather yes” or “rather no.”
The initiative has the greatest support among voters of the Swiss “Greens” (among them 92% were in favor of it), and the least among voters of the radical liberal camp, but even there there is an overwhelming majority (62%).

Among the most frequently cited reasons why Swiss people support restrictions on fireworks are stress in pets, farm animals and wild animals, as well as air pollution.
Among those who are against restrictions, the most popular arguments are that fireworks are a tradition and part of life, and that there are already too many rules and prohibitions in Switzerland.
In the fall of 2023, more than 137 thousand Swiss people initiated restrictions on the sale and release of loud fireworks by private individuals. Silent fireworks will be permitted, but loud pyrotechnics at events will only be permitted with prior approval.
Last year, we recall, the German police and fire unions condemned attacks on their teams, which helped eliminate the consequences of careless fireworks, and called for a ban on their sale into private hands.
