54% of Romanian citizens do not support the idea of unification with Moldova, and only a third (33%) favor this idea.
This is evidenced by the results of a nationwide survey by Avangard. “European Truth” with reference to News.ro.
In the event of a referendum on unification with Moldova, 50% of respondents would vote against, another 31% would support such a step, 13% did not decide on an answer, the remaining 6% did not answer the question.
Among Romanians, according to the survey, a neutral perception of Moldova prevails (57%), 31% have a positive attitude towards the country, another 9% have a negative attitude. At the same time, the majority of respondents did not support the immediate accession of Moldova to the European Union (40% vs. 30%) and the North Atlantic Alliance (40% vs. 31%).
Moldovan society in Romania is predominantly assessed as divided between pro-Russian and pro-Western sentiments (46%). 16% of respondents called it unequivocally pro-Russian, 14% – pro-Western.
When asked whether military assistance should be provided to Moldova in the event of an attack on it, the majority (56%) answered in the negative, 29% would support such a decision. When the question specified that it was about helping with military equipment, the majority approved of it (48% versus 35%).
The Avangard survey took place April 26-29 among 850 respondents from a representative sample of the adult population.
