In several major US cities, the omicron wave seems to be abating again. According to figures published on Friday, the number of infections registered in cities such as New York and Washington, which were the first to be affected by the new variant of the corona virus, has recently fallen. At the national level, however, infections continued to increase.
New York recently recorded an average of 28,500 new infections per day, after an average of 42,000 infections two weeks earlier. The health authorities also recorded declining numbers in the capital Washington, which was hit hard by the omicron, and in Chicago. A similar pattern has been reported from the states of New Jersey and Maryland.
