Payback customers have to prepare for big changes. After Rewe, another trading partner is leaving the bonus program.

Kassel – There is a lot of movement in the Payback points system, the company is currently going through a major upheaval. After Rewe had already announced the end of its cooperation with Payback, another group is now leaving the bonus program: The Fressnapf Group will no longer cooperate with Payback, as will, among others Food newspaper reported.

Upheaval at Payback: Edeka and Sparkasse are coming – Rewe and Fressnapf are leaving

Owners of a Payback card have to prepare for major changes anyway. Only recently did those responsible announce that Payback would cooperate with Sparkasse from 2025. This means that around 9,000 companies that work with the savings bank will be included in the points system. In addition, Edeka and Payback have announced a cooperation from March 1, 2025, which means the bonus program will include the highest-grossing grocery retailer in Germany.

For customers of the Fressnapf Group, however, collecting points will soon be over. While the collaboration has already ended in Austria, customers in Germany will only be able to collect points in the branches of the specialist retail chain for pet food and pet accessories until March 2025.

End after ten years: Fressnapf and Payback end their cooperation

Payback and Fressnapf have been working together since 2015. Payback announced in November 2022 Press release the extension of the partnership with Fressnapf. But like that Food newspaper reports, this could soon no longer be worthwhile for the chain.

The reasons for this are that Payback got involved relatively late compared to other companies and was unable to assert itself against other retailers. For advertising, the group had to access data from Payback, which would also have to be paid for by Fressnapf. The company also no longer wanted to bear the costs of shopping with a Payback card or app. Upon request from IPPEN.MEDIA However, the company has not yet commented on this.

Another reason is that Fressnapf is planning to expand abroad, where business would be even better than in Germany. The company is already represented in 13 countries, but Payback is only available in three countries. That’s why Fressnapf now wants to strengthen its own bonus program “Fressnapf Friends”, which was launched in spring 2022 and is said to already have more than five million participants. (bk)
