Major Telecommunications Outage in Berlin Leaves Thousands of Pyur Customers Without Services

Thousands of customers of the telecommunications brand Pyur in Berlin have not been able to access the telephone, Internet or television since Wednesday afternoon. During civil engineering work by third parties, two large fiber optic cables were destroyed over a length of around 200 meters in the Rummelsburg district, the company Tele Columbus, to which the brand belongs, announced on Thursday. “In the properties connected above, there was a failure of all services,” it said.

Tele Columbus assumes that 100,000 TV connections will be disrupted and that 25,000 Internet and telephone customers will be affected. The exact number initially remained unclear.

The first households could be supplied with the signal again on Thursday evening at the earliest. “Tele Columbus assumes that the work will not be fully completed until Friday evening,” the company said. 2.2 kilometers of fiber optics would have to be reinstalled for the repair.
