Major Rock Fall in Abtenau, Austria: Car Collides with Ten-Ton Boulder

There was a large rock fall in Abtenau in the Austrian state of Salzburg on Sunday evening. A ten-ton boulder fell onto a road.

Abtenau: Car hits a boulder

A 49-year-old driver was unable to get out of the way in time and crashed into the rock. The man and his 47-year-old wife, who was traveling with him, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A cow that the two farmers were carrying in a trailer was seriously injured in the accident. The animal had to be slaughtered, as ORF reported online.

Road reopened after rock fall

An official geologist examined the crash site and ruled out any risk of further rockfalls. After several hours of clearing work, the road was reopened to traffic.
