The work will begin in September 2024 and is expected to last at least a year. This is what the Dir Ouest announced this Friday, March 29, 2024, during a press conference, about this portion of the RN24, between Le Rheu and Rennes. Over two kilometers, towards Rennes, a new lane reserved for public transport will be put into service, to extend the current one. Furthermore, from April 1 to June 15, work will also be carried out to improve the traffic lights on this same RN24.
Elsewhere on the ring road
This project includes a more complete set of works, which will be carried out at different points on the Rennes ring road throughout 2024. Cameras, for example, will be installed at Bellengeraie and Rigoudière, at ‘East.
A sanitation basin will be created at Porte de Cleunay, while at Porte de Tizé, a panel allowing the broadcast of “variable messages” will be installed.
New traffic lights
In the sector which serves the south-east industrial zone, at Porte de Beaulieu and Porte des Loges, a construction site is planned to install “access regulation”. The principle: “install traffic lights at the level of the access ramps to the expressway and make incoming vehicles wait, to control the flow of vehicles entering the expressway and maintain the flow of traffic by delaying, or even avoiding , the formation of a traffic jam,” specifies the West Directorate.
Already installed in Nantes, the “fire access regulation” system to the ring road will be gradually deployed in Rennes on eight gates in total. The first gate to be equipped was the Bréquigny gate in September 2023.
