– We are now at the start of a major rescue operation, says on-duty rescue manager Cecilie Øversveen at the Central Rescue Center to the newspaper.

The main rescue center in southern Norway announced on Twitter at 8.55 that a drifting recreational boat had been found in Stolmasunde in Austevoll.

For a period it was not clear whether there had been people in the boat before it was found drifting, but after it became clear that a person was missing, a rescue operation was initiated.

– We send out rescue boats, ambulance boats, rescue helicopters and the Red Cross, says Øversveen.
