Mega work around Tilburg station will start on Sunday. Trains will not run there for just 15 days due to work on the track and the station. The NS uses about 150 buses.
The effect? “It’s really big,” says ProRail spokesperson Joke van der Cruysen. “It’s very difficult for the passenger. We mix up activities as much as we can, so it gets done afterwards.”
From Sunday 28 April to the morning of Monday 13 May, ProRail will operate around Tilburg station and Tilburg University. This means that no train traffic is possible from, through and to Tilburg.
In addition, work is being done on the route between Tilburg and Breda and Tilburg and Vught. Work is also underway at Gilze-Rijen station. All this is done on purpose mostly during the May holidays.
NS will be using buses from 28 April to 12 May
- Fast buses between Breda – Tilburg – ‘s-Hertogenbosch
- Stop buses between Oisterwijk – Tilburg – Tilburg University
- Stop buses between Boxtel and Oisterwijk
- Bus stops between Tilburg – Tilburg University – Tilburg Reeshof – Gilze-Rijen – Breda
On Monday, May 13, NS will use express buses and stop buses between Tilburg and Breda. The NS advises you to speak to the travel planner.
Students are not happy with the degree. “Very stupid, because I have to go to lectures. I have to write my thesis. It takes me an hour by bus,” said student Jenske Robberegt (21) from Den Bosch. 19-year-old Charlotte van de Stro from Breda: “It’s just stupid. There’s always a delay or work.”
Kasper van der Heijden (18) from Eindhoven is also disappointed with the situation. He has a driving test in two weeks so he will have extra driving lessons in the afternoon next week. “I planned it in a way that it worked well with the school, but now that I have to travel an hour further, I can’t do it anymore. ” According to Kasper, it is not possible to reschedule driving lessons at this time. “So unfortunately I now miss lectures.”
What are they going to do?
The steep stairs to the platforms at Tilburg station are being replaced. Someone falls off that regularly. Platform 4 will also be completed and platform 1 will be upgraded.
Platform 1 at Tilburg University station is being completely renovated. There will be new pavements, lighting, cameras and a new public address system. In addition, ProRail is replacing portals for the overhead lines and the ramp of platforms 2 and 3 will be completely renewed.
Does it have to take that long? Well, there is still a lot of work to be done. Upgrading rails and communication wires of the overhead line. This happens again between Tilburg University and Breda and between Tilburg and Vught. There will be no trains between Tilburg and Breda on Monday, May 13.
10 years of renewal
“This brings us almost to the end of 10 years of upgrading Tilburg station,” said Van der Cruysen. “It’s a real milestone.”
The station received a new corridor in 2015 and the ‘prawn cracker roof’ was renovated. The bike sheds were renovated in 2020 and 2021. Some work will still be done in the coming years, but for the passenger this will not be as visible and extensive.
