There is a major release of Nano, the popular terminal editor that comes standard in most major Linux distributions. Version 8.0 includes more extensive navigation. Also, the links to copy, paste and exit the editor now make more sense.
The update for Nano 8.0 is called ‘Grus grus’. This is the first update in over a year for the popular editor and one of the biggest yet. In from publication notes There are some big changes for the editor. The most obvious one is that the keyboard shortcut links have been changed. These never made much sense in Nano; for cutting and pasting, users always had to use ^k and ^ua. These orders have become more logical. For cutting, copying and pasting, users can now use the familiar ^x, ^c and ^v, and ^r instead of term. The editor can be closed with ^q in the future. Additionally, commands have been changed to find text, write a file and more.
The search function in the editor has been improved and can now be called with ^f. The editor looks forward by default. For a trace back users can use ^ba.
In Nano 8.0 it is also possible to open a file directly at a specific sequence number. There are also small improvements in the editor, so that the cursor does not move when you write anymore, but only the text window.
