Some 45,000 connections in parts of the provinces of Utrecht and South Holland have been without electricity since 00:15 on the night between Wednesday and Thursday. A spokesman for network operator Stedin says technicians have managed to restore the electricity supply.
More than an hour after the power outage, technicians managed to restore electricity supply to 9,000 customers. It took longer to troubleshoot the other 35,000 affected connections, a Stedin spokeswoman said earlier.
The cause of the failure is a broken TenneT high-voltage line. People are reporting on Twitter that there was no electricity in Gorinchem (South Holland) and Vianen (Utrecht), among others.
