Major power outage in Brussels only completely resolved around midnight

The power failure that left large parts of Jette, Koekelberg, Evere, Sint-Agatha-Berchem and Ganshoren in the dark on Friday evening is still not completely resolved. The disturbance is particularly persistent in the latter municipality.

Several photos of dark living rooms, where people had to rely on candlelight and flashlights, quickly circulated on social media on Friday evening around 6.45 pm. Among other things, the entire area around the Spiegelplein in Jette was completely in the dark. And an employee reported that some traffic lights on Keizer Karellaan were out of order for a short time. Sibelga has no explanation for the sudden breakdown for the time being.

The problems last the longest in Ganshoren, Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, Jette and Evere. In the Hellinckxstraat and JS Bachlaan, among others, several residents were still in the dark around 8.30 pm. And at 8.45 pm the CEO of UZ Jette, Marc Noppen, announced that the emergency circuit of the hospital was running at full speed, so there was no question of failure.

In the course of Friday evening, Sibelga reported that the breakdown would be resolved by midnight at the earliest.
