The police partially closed down Leiden Central station tonight around 8.30 pm. There was a report of an armed man on a train.
A team of the Special Interventions Service (DSI) of the police entered a train that was parked at platform 5B and came out fifteen minutes later with a blindfolded suspect. A weapon has not yet been found. A Rapid Response Team was also deployed by the police during the action at the station.
“If there is a threat with a weapon, we always go to great lengths,” a police spokesman explains. At the station, stories circulated that the police were on the trail of the Dutchman who is wanted in Denmark for murder and torture, but this appears not to be the case. “These were narcotics and they were also found,” said the police spokesperson.
Platforms were cleared and cordoned off during the action. Train traffic was stopped and a police helicopter hovered over the area for some time. The trains started running again around 9.15 pm.
We just got a train on it #CS in #Leiden evacuated as a precaution due to the possible presence of a suspicious person who would be carrying a weapon. One suspect has been arrested, but no weapon has been found. @politieleiden
