VIENNA/RUDOLFSHEIM-FÜNFHAUS. Blue lights flashing in broad daylight in the 15th district. A large number of uniformed officers were deployed at the corner of Sechshauser Straße and Rheindorfgasse.

“During renovation work on a building, a construction defect occurred. Parts of a wall, a facade and the ceiling collapsed,” explains professional fire department spokesman Gerald Schimpf. The result was a major operation by his organization. 30 firefighters arrived with seven vehicles.

Search for buried people

“Initially, it was unclear whether people had been affected or buried by the collapse,” said Schimpf. However, the search for possible missing persons was successfully concluded. No one was injured in the incident. This was also confirmed by the Vienna rescue service, which was also on site.

“We then had to temporarily secure the parts and the building so that no further parts were in danger of collapsing. The operation is now over for us, the responsible construction company can take over the further measures,” explains the Floriani spokesman.

Bus line interrupted, road closed

The challenging operation also led to various closures in the area. According to ARBÖ’s traffic service, Sechshauser Straße was closed between the Reindorfergasse and Winckelmannstraße intersections.

Public transport was also temporarily paralyzed. Line 57A could only run between Burgring and Gumpendorfer Straße. Bus service has been up and running again since 1 p.m.
