A major naval exercise that will begin on September 9 in the Baltic Sea with about 30 ships and more than 3,000 Western troops will practice repelling a Russian attack in the region for the first time.

Kaak’s direct speech: “We send a clear message to Russia about vigilance: Not during our watch. A strong deterrent must include the ability to attack.”
Details: The exercises will last 2 weeks. They will train side by side the troops of all NATO countries in the Baltic Sea, as well as Sweden, which will soon become a member of the Alliance, and non-Baltic allies – the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium and France. They will practice landing operations and strikes from the sea on land.
The US Navy will send the Mesa Verde, a ship more than 200 meters long, designed to transport and drop about 800 Marines, Kaak said.
During the exercises, they will also work out the protection of sea routes through the Baltic Sea.
Kaak’s direct speech: “Finland and the Baltic countries are almost 100% dependent on sea supply routes through the Baltic Sea. If the Suwalki corridor is blocked – and this can be done easily, since there are only two roads and one railway line – then we will only have sea routes, and It is through them that we will have to make our way.”
The Suwalki Gap, a narrow land corridor about 65 kilometers long, is the only link between the Baltic States and Poland and NATO’s core territory in Europe.
It is reported that this will be the first exercise of this magnitude, which the German Navy will conduct from its new naval headquarters in the city of Rostock.
