Major Leak Causes Disconnection of Key Strand in World’s Largest Oil Pipeline, Disrupting Crude Oil Transport to Germany

The oil pipeline is the largest in the world and also the main route that brings crude oil to Germany.

In Poland, one of the threads of the western section of the Druzhba oil pipeline was damaged, so this thread had to be disconnected as a result of a leak.

About it informed Polish pipeline operator PERN.

So, due to an oil leak at a site in Poland, one of the two strands of the Druzhba oil pipeline in the direction of Germany was disconnected. The second branch of the pipeline operates without changes.

“PERN services have reached a damaged section of one of the strands of the western section of the Druzhba pipeline in the Chodecz commune. This is the highway that transports crude oil from offshore supplies to the West. Repair work is underway on the pipeline“, PERN said in a statement.

They added that they plan to resume the pumping of oil until the morning of August 8.

It should be noted that the Druzhba oil pipeline with a length of 5,200 km is the largest in the world. It is laid from Russia to Belarus, where it branches into two lines: Northern (Belarus, Poland and Germany) and Southern (Ukraine, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary).

Recall that in August 2022, Russia announced that Ukraine had stopped the transit of oil through the Druzhba pipeline due to EU sanctions, which made it impossible to pay for transit.

In November, the Russian company “Transneft” in the second announced that Ukraine had suspended the pumping of oil through the pipeline “Druzhba” in the direction of Hungary. However, a few days later, Hungary reported that they had begun to receive oil again.

In March, in the Belgorod and Bryansk regions, there were reports of drone attacks on the oil pumping stations of the Druzhba pipeline.

Later, in May, the Russian Federation announced an UAV attack on an oil refinery in the Tver region, which serves the Druzhba oil pipeline.
