The Autonomous Port of Dakar signed this Tuesday, October 8, in China, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei Technologies Senegal, with the aim of promoting the digital transformation of the Port of Dakar. This collaboration seeks to modernize port infrastructure through automation, while improving operational efficiency using advanced technologies.

Visiting China from October 4 to 14, the Director General of the Autonomous Port of Dakar, Mr. Waly Diouf Bodiang, is accompanied by his team. Invited by the authorities of Huawei and the Port of Qingdao, strategic partner, he began his stay with a visit to the Research and Development Center and the Huawei Library in Shenzhen. This mission was announced by the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, during his visit to China last September, on the occasion of the Forum on Sino-African Cooperation (FOCAC) 2024. The Head of State had underlined the benefits of this partnership by affirming that “the technological cooperation between the Autonomous Port of Dakar and the Port of Qingdao will strengthen the competitiveness of the Port of Dakar”. Impressed by the automation of operations at the Port of Qingdao, the President hopes to see this model adopted in Dakar.

The signed agreement aims to reposition the Port of Dakar as a major logistics hub in West Africa. With this agreement, the port will benefit from optimized network connectivity, as well as better management and maintenance of its systems. The press release specifies that the new technologies implemented “will make it possible to manage the flow of trucks and containers more efficiently”, while minimizing human errors and improving the safety of operations.
