Major General Inaugurates ‘Family’ Program in Qena Governorate to Tackle Population Issues

Today, Monday, Major General Ashraf Al-Daoudi, Governor of Qena, inaugurated the “Family” program. To support, develop, and spread the sound health culture of the family family, as part of the state’s plan to reduce the population problem, and the related issue of early marriage, female genital mutilation, dropping out of education, and other issues that hinder the development movement, as one of the projects of the Ministry of Health and Population, which is in line with With the National Project for Egyptian Family Development, implemented by Pathfinder International with funding from the United States Agency for International Development.

This came in the presence of Dr. Hazem Omar, Deputy Governor of Qena, Dr. Muhammad Abu Nar, head of the “Usra” program team, Dr. Hossam Abbas, head of the Population and Family Planning Sector at the Ministry of Health, and a number of executive leaders in the governorate.

The Governor of Qena stressed that the health and population sector are the top concerns of the political leadership. To achieve sustainable development and ensure the quality of services provided, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030, praising the “Usrah” program and those in charge of it, for the supportive force it represents and a golden opportunity for integration and harmony with all development projects in the governorate. To improve the standard of living and lives of families and confront wrong beliefs and behaviours.

The Family Program also aims to support the health of families and develop their information and skills in order to help them plan and make the correct voluntary choice for their reproductive life and increase the use of family planning methods, in addition to supporting young people and raising their health awareness through modern information channels that allow them to access information that qualifies them for a healthy life.

Dr. Muhammad Abu Nar, head of the “Usra” program team, added that the selection of the project’s workplaces in Qena Governorate was made according to “health, economic, and social” development indicators, and the program will be implemented over a period of 3 years in the administrations of Qus, with 34 units, and Naqada, with 12 units. And the endowment is 7 units, in addition to implementing the program in the units of the Presidential Initiative to develop primary health care units with 6 units, bringing the total number of units in which the “Usra” program will operate to 77 health units.

Doctors and nurses are also trained in mobile clinics in the administrations of Qus, Naqada, and Al-Waqf, which number 3 clinics.

Abbas explained that the most important interventions that the “Usra” program will carry out at the governorate level and health departments are: implementing training-of-trainers courses from the Health and Population Directorate and other relevant officials at the governorate level and its affiliated health departments. Training-of-trainers programs include building The capabilities of the supervision teams in the governorate and its affiliated departments, implementing and managing local awareness and behavior change campaigns, and training the supervision teams on facilitative supervision skills, in addition to assisting the cadres of the governorate and health departments, whose capabilities have been built to expand the scope of Osra program activities, and replicate them in other departments that do not The program works.
