BØ, TELEMARK (Nettavisen): February is a time for new food product launches in stores.
But what the industry doesn’t talk about as much is all the goods that are being cut for good.
Now many Grandiosa varieties are disappearing, Freia is cutting out chocolate bars, and Tine is cutting out more Go’ Morgen yoghurts and a type of low-fat milk is no longer possible to buy. A Nugatti type is also cut out.
– Has over 1,000 products
Orkla is the country’s largest supplier to grocery stores. At the same time as they are launching a large number of new variants, the list is also long when it comes to products that are to be released.
– Yes, we have over 1,000 products and there is always some movement in the portfolio in February, says communications director Dag Olav Stokken.

Among other things, they cut a whole range of Grandiosa thin bottoms. This means that these will no longer be available for purchase:
- Grandiosa thin bottom cured ham
- Grandiosa thin bottom Chicken and Pesto
- Grandiosa thin bottom Mozzarella
- Grandiosa Thin Bottom Pepperoni
The thin bottom variants are not entirely different from the pizzas of the competitor Dr. Oetker. But the numbers suggest that Grandiosa had to lose in that competition.
– Thin bottom was launched with the breadth of our range in mind. We are not satisfied with the sales and will concentrate on our other concepts to succeed in the pizza market, says Stokken.
Cutter Go’ Tomorrow
Tine is also one of the country’s largest producers. This means that there will be many launches, but also many variants that will be cut.
This time, several Go’ Morgen variants are going away. An iced coffee, a cheese spread and low-fat milk with one percent fat are also cut.
– For us at Tine, it is important to deliver on the consumer’s needs and wishes. When we remove products from the range, it is due to low demand in the market, says communications advisor Margrete Holm Rogne.
Away with salted caramel
Another product that is being cut is Yt protein shake with salted caramel. Salted caramel was all the rage a few years ago, but the trend may be fading now. Because even the Nugatti variant with salted caramel is hard to come by.
– We are not satisfied with the sales of Nugatti salted caramel and will therefore concentrate on other varieties. Not least the original, which is the big winner over time, says communications director at Orkla Foods, Dag Olav Stokken.
No more liver paste
Both Stabburet and Gilde have invested in fresh, coarser liver paste, but this has obviously not caught on. Both are now being cut. Gilde owner Nortura also cuts some types of meat pies and patties as well as everyday bacon.

– Nortura is constantly working to optimize its range, says communications advisor Thomas Sissener Bonafede.
He explains the reason for the cuts as follows:
– There may be sales below the expected level, that products are replaced by new launches and the like, he says.
Tube cheeses disappear
Kavli has many popular tube cheeses, but four that are not popular enough will be lost. Among other things Primula natural.
Kavli also owns the Q dairies, and here some flavor variants are to be cut, including the one with coffee and vanilla.
– The reason for the cuts is weak sales, says managing director of Kavli, Kristine Aasheim.
– Misses Elias’ potato chips
At the Extra store on Bø, Nettavisen meets Theo Sterner Welfler (23), who is shopping with Inger Karin Edingsås (50).
– I was talking about that Freia chocolate there, says Theo. He points to the chocolate bar with corn and popcorn which is now being phased out due to weak sales.
– It didn’t taste very good, so I only bought it once, he says.
– Do you miss foods that the manufacturers have cut out?
– I miss the Elias potato chips that I used to eat when I was little, says Theo.
The Andersen family is also on a shopping trip. Olivia (9) is aware of what she misses.
– I miss steak, she says.
Mother Pernille (33) is quick to clarify.
– Olivia just wishes we had it a little more often for dinner.
– Or we don’t miss so many foods, the only thing is Telepølsen which can no longer be bought, says Pernille Andersen.

Nettavisen has contacted some of the largest suppliers in the Norwegian grocery trade and asked them to state which products are disappearing this winter. The overview is not complete, which means that there may be more products that are cut, but which are not included in the overview.
ORKLA
Orkla states that they have over 1,000 different products in Norwegian groceries, and that there is “always some movement in the portfolio. These are the biggest endings:
