A large fire is raging at hotel Het Witte Veen on K. Brokweg in Witteveen. According to a spokesperson for the Safety Region Drenthe, all guests have left the building.

The fire was reported shortly before 5:30 a.m. A large number of fire brigades have been dispatched to extinguish the fire. These are corps from Zweeloo, Westerbork, Zwinderen and Hoogeveen. The smoke can be seen for miles around. The VRD advises local residents to keep windows and doors closed if people are bothered by the smoke.

Due to the remote location of the hotel and the narrow road on which it stands, the VRD calls on everyone not to come and watch the fire. This hinders the emergency services in their work.
