Major fire in the warehouse of a Frankfurt recycling center
The warehouse of a recycling company on Intzestraße in Frankfurt’s Ostend went up in flames on Tuesday night. There was a lot of smoke, according to the fire department. The cloud of smoke could also be seen in the sky above the neighboring municipalities – and led to odor nuisances in Offenbach, Schöneck and Nidderau (both Main-Kinzig).
Automatic fire alarm systems sometimes triggered an alarm. Residents were urged to keep windows and doors closed. However, there was no danger to the population. According to measurements by the fire department, the smoke was not toxic.
Extinguishing robot in action
The company’s warehouse is in danger of collapsing. Around 120 firefighters were on site throughout the night. According to the police, the fire is now under control. Now the emergency services can pull apart the garbage in the hall with excavators and wheel loaders. Among other things, an extinguishing robot is in use.
According to the police, the approximately 300 cubic meter rubble mountain caught fire. Then the fire spread to the warehouse. It was possible to prevent the fire from spreading to an adjacent company building.
According to initial findings, no one was injured. Scrap and household waste of all kinds is stored in the hall. The amount of damage is estimated at several hundred thousand euros.
