Major Fire Evacuates Sixteen Homes in Spijkenisse Apartment Complex

Sixteen homes were evacuated on Monday evening due to a major fire in an apartment complex on Rozemarijndonk in Spijkenisse. About thirty people were sheltered in a nearby supermarket.

The fire brigade received a report around 8.30 pm and was quickly on site. According to Rijnmond The fire may have started on the balcony, but the cause is unknown. The resident was not at home.

According to the fire brigade, the house where the fire started is no longer habitable. The fire has now been extinguished and the other evacuated homes have been released. Everyone can go home again.

Seven residents suffered smoke inhalation and were checked by ambulance personnel, but no one needed to be taken to hospital.

The municipality of Nissewaard, which includes Spijkenisse, asked local residents to stay indoors during the fire and to keep windows and doors closed.
