A garage in Heerhugowaard was completely destroyed in a major fire. The fire brigade has tried to extinguish the fire, but says the building can no longer be saved. The fire brigade is now allowing the business premises to burn out in a controlled manner and is trying to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings.

Due to the smoke development, an NL Alert was sent shortly after midnight, calling for people to stay away from smoke and to close windows and doors in case of smoke nuisance. The regional broadcaster NH reports that the N242, which is located along the business premises on Nijverheidsstraat, has been closed for some time due to smoke development.
The fire brigade asks people not to approach the fire and to give emergency services space to do their work.
There are currently no reports of casualties. Nothing is yet known about the cause of the fire.
