DRACHTEN – In Drachten, a major fire broke out on Sunday afternoon in an apartment of the Servotel, located on the Haverstuk. What started as a single report around 5 p.m. quickly escalated into a situation that required the deployment of multiple fire crews.
The fire most likely started in an apartment on the second floor of the complex. As a result of the fire, enormous smoke developed, although some of it was released through the roof.
The fire was scaled up to a ‘very large fire’ within fifteen minutes. Despite minimal visibility of smoke from the outside, the severity of the situation inside was unmistakable.
Eviction
The fire brigade and police, who were the first on the scene, took immediate action by starting to evacuate the apartment complex. This decision was made to ensure the safety of all residents and their pets. The people were gathered in the parking lot of MLK Boulevard.
The residents were met in a shop van and other vehicles in the parking lot of the shopping boulevard. Other residents were waiting outside until they could go back inside.
After the fire in the apartment was extinguished, a lot of smoke remained in the entire building. This smoke had to be removed using fans. It is unknown how extensive the damage is inside.
