“The shed must be regarded as lost,” says spokesperson Jet Vroege of the security region. “We will first try to stop the fire, but we are now fully committed to that. Then the fire must be extinguished. And then we can extinguish. That will probably take several hours.”
To put out the fire, firefighters pump water from De Linge, among other things. Hoses that transport that river water are located on roads around the Industrieweg. That is why a number of roads in the area are closed to traffic.

The fire broke out at around 5:45 p.m. in the building on De Heuning business park. Almost immediately after the first report, the fire service scaled up the deployment to ‘major fire’ and not much later to ‘very large fire’. In addition to four fire trucks, the fire service also deploys two aerial platforms and a large water transport system.
Hummer Produktie BV is located in the shed. A manufacturer of wheelbarrows. Hummer is part of the adjacent De Greef. That company produces wheelbarrows under the name Hummer and climbing equipment under the name Maxall. De Greef also trades internationally in mesh products and work footwear.
