At least 100 people have been killed in a major fire at a wedding party in Iraq. More than 150 people were injured, Reuters reports.
The fire raged in an event hall in the Al-Hamdaniya district of Ninawa province in northeastern Iraq, near Mosul. The fire broke out after fireworks were set off during the wedding party, according to local media. Hundreds of people attended the party.
Iraqi state media wrote that the building was made of highly flammable building materials, which caused it to quickly collapse. According to a Reuters correspondent at the scene, firefighters clambered over the burned debris in search of survivors. The death toll is expected to rise further.
