A major fire has raged at a car scrap yard on the north side of Rotterdam. The fire released a lot of smoke. No one was injured.
The fire started around 9 p.m. at the car scrap yard, which is located next to Rotterdam The Hague Airport. The fire brigade initially wanted to evacuate a nearby allotment complex because the smoke was moving over the allotment gardens, but later the wind changed.
The fire brigade says that soot particles may have ended up on the allotment complex. It contains no asbestos. According to the emergency services, the soot particles can be washed away with water.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
