Major fire and explosions in Rijswijk business premises, hotel evacuated

A very large fire is raging in several business premises in Rijswijk. A lot of smoke is released. The smoke clouds can be seen in the area. Explosions were also heard. They most likely come from gas cylinders that are present in the buildings.

An adjacent hotel has been evacuated, reports the Haaglanden security region. The dozens of guests are accommodated in another hotel.

The buildings on Van Gijnstraat include a garage. Many emergency services from the area were deployed to fight the fire. The fire service says the smoke poses no danger, but can cause a lot of nuisance. “Advice still remains to stay out of the smoke.”

It is not yet clear how the fire started.
