The Bavarian Ministry of Health has specified the new rules for major sporting and cultural events.

According to information from Friday, a spectator capacity utilization of up to 25 percent is also possible in stadiums, halls and other event locations if the minimum distance of 1.50 meters, for example in the seating grandstands, cannot be consistently maintained.

The cabinet decided on Tuesday to relax the corona rules for sport, culture and other events, and they have been in force since Thursday. After that, for events that are not large and national, a spectator capacity of up to 50 percent is allowed again – previously it was 25 percent. For major national events with more than 1000 spectators, a 25 percent occupancy rate is now permitted again, up to an upper limit of 10,000 spectators. However, only seats may be occupied.

“Best possible distancing”

Basically, the following applies to all of this: the minimum distance of 1.50 meters must be maintained everywhere. However, exceptions are possible: for cinemas and theaters, Head of State Florian Herrmann (CSU) had already announced on Tuesday that up to 50 percent occupancy would also be allowed if the minimum distances cannot be maintained everywhere. And that’s what the amended Corona Ordinance says, including the justification: The prerequisite for being able to go below 1.50 meters is the “best possible distance maintenance”, for example when the seats are occupied “like a chessboard”.

On Friday, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health made it clear that this also applies to large, national events: “The exception applies – under the condition already mentioned – in both cases (25 percent cases and 50 percent cases), so also at major national sporting events,” she said on request. − dpa
