A new large construction project has been launched in Ukraine
In Transcarpathia they have begun the construction of a European track – it will be laid from Uzhgorod to Chop. Thus, Uzhgorod will become the first regional center of Ukraine connected to Europe by such a track.
The Prime Minister announced this Denis Shmygal. He noted: the implementation of the project will make it possible to launch direct railway communication between Uzhgorod and a number of European cities. In particular:
- Vienna (Austria);
- Bratislava (Slovakia);
- Kosice (Slovakia);
- Budapest (Hungary);
- Prague (Czech Republic);
- Bucharest (Romania);
- Dresden (Germany);
- Belgrade (Serbia).
“The implementation of the project will create a transport hub in Uzhgorod, which will provide convenient and quick transfer of passengers between wide-track trains and EU trains. The construction of this Euro-gauge track will be financed by EU grant funds,” the statement says.

At the same time, the prime minister emphasized that in the near future it is also planned to implement similar projects in other cities using EU funds. In particular:
- Lvov;
- Chernivtsi.
In turn, in “Ukrzaliznytsia” noted: the project for the construction of a Euro-gauge track from Uzhgorod to Chop provides for the laying of 22 km of railway track of the European standard. And:
- reconstruction of artificial structures, facilities and utility networks;
- “equipping the track with two-way semi-automatic blocking and microprocessor-based dispatch centralization devices.”
“At the next stage, it is planned to carry out electrification of the new European track of 1435 mm on the Chop – Uzhgorod section,” the company noted.

As OBOZ.UA reported, they also want to build a new river port with a multimodal terminal in the Transcarpathian region. Thanks to it, it will be possible to organize international transportation.
