Montpellier is not done with the tramway works. The construction site of the line 5 punctuated the daily lives of Montpellier residents for nearly a year, especially in the north of the city. To the west, the work began with rue des Chasseurs and will gradually extend to the Maurice Gennevaux roundabout (better known to Montpellier residents as the “Chez Paulette” roundabout), its terminus. Delivery of line 5 is scheduled for 2025.
If motorists are led to take their troubles patiently, this is an attitude that tram users will also have to adopt. Major works are planned for the modernization of the current network. “The inaction [de la majorité précédente] was detrimental and causes operational incidents, regrets Julie Frêche (PS), vice-president of the metropolis of Montpellier, delegate for mobility. Elsewhere, the authorities organizing mobility of comparable size give a much greater place to investments. »
Major works at the station and at the Corum
Seventy million euros between now and 2024 will be mobilized to strengthen the maintenance and modernization program for rolling stock. Eighteen million euros are planned to implement actions to modernize and deal with obsolescence of operating systems (visual information terminals, operating assistance systems, video, railway signalling…)
Major works (changes to surfaces, rails, points and crossings) will be carried out at the Corum, at the station and at Moularès. “We will reorganize the network to limit the inconvenience as much as possible”, promises Julie Frêche. The schedule is not yet official. But this work carried out on key areas will inevitably have significant consequences for users.
