Maybe we will soon treat kidney cancer, here in Nice! the Doctor Gilles Pagesresearch director at Inserm, team leader at the Cancer and Aging Institute of Nice (IRCAN) and his team, made a major discovery in the care of reindeer cancer. And prix was given to them by the biotechnology company Amgen, this Friday, May 6, accompanied by a fund of 75 000 euros.
Kidney cancer is incurable when there are metastases (ie when it is generalized.) Today, two treatments exist, to slow down the progression of the cancer. But in some patients, it does not work: they develop resistors to treatment.
Objective: to develop a new drug
Gilles Pagès and his team discovered a molecule which would allow destroy these resistances and therefore to better treat kidney cancer.
The goal is to make one medication, but getting there takes time and money. A clinical test, on patients, costs one billion euros for example !
The prize of 75,000 euros awarded by Amgen France is a nice boost to allow research to continue. Doctor Gilles Pagès has been working there for 15 years, at a cost, to date, of approximately six million euros.
