Major decrease in air traffic due to coronavirus is driving kerosene consumption down NOW

In March, 23 percent less kerosene was consumed than in January. In addition, less was delivered to international air traffic last month, the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) reported on Wednesday.

The so-called bunkered quantity, as these deliveries are called, fell to 213 million kilos, which means the lowest level in twenty years.

Sales of other oil products were also lower in March. Compared to the same month a year earlier, sales are 12 percent lower.

Compared to January, sales of petrol shrank by 20 percent and diesel sales by 2 percent. The limited drop in sales of diesel is due to the fact that freight traffic has remained largely stable. Many commercial vehicles of contractors, lease cars and agricultural vehicles still drive around on diesel.

As a result of the lower sales of oil products, refineries have now cut their production by 12 percent. For example, the production of gasoline has decreased by 13 percent to 1,800 million kilograms.
