Major cyber attack at the world’s largest meat processor JBS…

The world’s largest meat processor JBS was attacked by hackers on Sunday. The cyberattack forced JBS to shut down its computer networks in North America and Australia and temporarily halt meat processing at a major Canadian factory. In Australia, the slaughter of cattle and lambs was stopped.

JBS, originally Brazilian, is active worldwide in meat processing. According to JBS, the organized cyber attack was aimed at American computer servers. The company says it is not aware of the theft of information by the hackers and that it is working hard to get all IT systems up and running again. The cyber attack could cause delays for customers and suppliers, JBS said.

10,000 employees go home

According to an Australian union, up to 10,000 JBS employees were sent home in that country because of the disruptions caused by the hack. The company is Australia’s largest processor of beef, lamb and pork and exports those products to more than 50 countries. The shut down Canadian factory in Alberta can process about 4,200 cattle per day.

The hacking attack at JBS comes not long after a major cyber attack against the American oil pipeline company Colonial Pipeline. That hack three weeks ago caused a major oil pipeline in the US to be temporarily shut down, causing gas shortages at gas stations and soaring fuel prices.
