“Major Crimes”. The charm of a traditional quality series

“Major Crimes”, derived from The Closer: L.A. priority investigations, resumes for the greatest pleasure of his followers who are 2.5 million on average to follow the investigations of the troop of police officers still as motivated.

One episode, one intrigue

Seven episodes in July 2018, seven in July 2019, seven in June 2020 … Programming a bit eccentric, you could say, but basically, why not? Because if certain series, particularly those whose narrative arches are very developed, do not suffer this kind of cutting, the most classic, such Major Crimes, better withstand the affront.

Derived from The Closer: L.A. priority investigations, Major Crimes does not have the prerogative of the leafing or curly series. Each of its 6 seasons has between 20 and 23 episodes, and apart from the opening and closing plots, generally divided into two chapters (history to mark the occasion), the others are completed in an hour, as is tradition.

The whole is set on a light red thread, carried by characters whose journey is both sufficiently developed for us to be interested in it and simple enough so that we do not hate the chain to suspend their interactions.

A bouquet of qualities

However, Major Crimes is not the least entertaining fiction. It is due to the diversity of its team of officers, all excellent and almost all present since the beginnings of The Closer, except for Kyra Sedgwick, whose departure is at the origin of her creation.

She also holds for being one of the very first to give leadership to a female figure: Deputy Chef Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick), replaced in 2012 by Commander Sharon Taylor (Mary McDonnell). It still applies to its investigations and interrogation scenes, always written with the same thoroughness.

James Duff, creator, chief screenwriter and showrunner of the two series, has never hidden his pride in making a program that is certainly classic, but of quality. Finally, it is worth for its location, Los Angeles, of which one never tires of the decorations, natural or not. In short, no major upheavals in these new episodes, but a beautiful and stable continuation.

A final season

Season 6 will be the last, however. Composed of 13 episodes much more developed than the previous ones (the arches have up to 5 parts), it was broadcast in late 2017 in the United States.
